MOBILITY / CUSTOMBIKES: Not only big bikes have the potential to make a big entrance: Honda showed this at this year’s Wheels & Waves event in Biarritz/France.

Das Wheels & Waves-Event in Biarritz/Frankreich ist immer ein großer Austausch von Kreativität und handwerklichem Können in der Motorradszene.
Dieses Jahr im Juni stellte Honda sieben Mini Bike Umbauten aus sieben Ländern vor.

Honda hatte dafür sieben Künstler eingeladen, um mit etablierten Custom-Buildern zusammenzuarbeiten. Das Ziel ist eine jüngere Generation von Fahrern zu inspirieren sowie auch das Interesse am Zweiradfahren bei einem neuen Publikum zu wecken.

Honda hat mit der 125er Dax, der Monkey 125 und der MSX125 Grom die umfassendste Mini-Bike Auswahl am Markt zu bieten. Jeder der Sympathieträger glänzt mit eigenständigem Charakter. Die Dax im Retro-Stil und die flippige Monkey wecken trotz fortschrittlicher Technik schöne Erinnerungen an die 1970er Jahre; die Grom trumpft als zeitgemäß modernes Mini-Bike im Westentaschenformat auf.

Dank großartigem Fahrspaß-Potential gehört das Grinsen im Gesicht bei diesem Trio garantiert dazu, ob man selbst im Sattel sitzt oder einfach eine der Maschinen vorbeifahren sieht. Rechnet man die handliche Statur und den sparsamen Kraftstoffverbrauch hinzu, erhält man das perfekte Einsteiger-Mini-Bike – spaßig, stilvoll, kostengünstig und genügsam zugleich.

Kreative Köpfe mit talentierten Customizern zusammen zu bringen und der Fantasie mit und um Dax, Monkey und MSX125 Grom freien Lauf zu lassen, hat aufs Neue zu interessanten Ergebnissen geführt – und war Grundlage für die Präsenz von Honda beim diesjährigen Wheels & Waves-Festival.

The Wheels & Waves event in Biarritz/France is always a great exchange of creativity and craftsmanship in the motorbike scene.
This year in June, Honda presented seven mini bike conversions from seven countries.

For this, Honda had invited seven artists to work together with established custom builders. The aim is to inspire a younger generation of riders as well as to awaken interest in two-wheeling among a new audience.

Honda has the most comprehensive mini-bike range on the market with the 125cc Dax, the Monkey 125 and the MSX125 Grom. Each of the popular models shines with its own unique character. The retro-style Dax and the funky Monkey evoke fond memories of the 1970s despite their advanced technology; the Grom comes up trumps as a contemporary, modern mini-bike in pocket size.

Thanks to great riding fun potential, the grin on your face is guaranteed with this trio, whether you’re sitting in the saddle yourself or just watching one of the machines go by. Add in the handy stature and fuel economy and you have the perfect entry-level mini-bike – fun, stylish, affordable and frugal all at the same time.

Bringing creative minds together with talented customisers and letting the imagination run wild with and around the Dax, Monkey and MSX125 Grom has again led to interesting results – and was the basis for Honda’s presence at this year’s Wheels & Waves festival.

„Hold On“

Die MSX125 Grom „Hold On!“ von Matt B und Customizer Guy Willison (@guywillison) ist dank der verlängerten Schwinge gestreckt wie ein Pro-Street-Dragster-Bike und wurde dazu leistungstechnisch aufgepumpt. Zweifellos eine aufregende, faszinierend mutige Kreation.

Matt B Customs aus Manchester in Großbritannien entdeckte seine Leidenschaft für die individuelle Gestaltung von Turnschuhen im Alter von 17 Jahren, als er diese zunächst für Freunde und Familie anzufertigen begann. Der Erfolg ließ nicht lange auf sich warten, inzwischen werden seine sportlichen Kunstwerk-Treter von Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande und Marcus Rashford getragen.

„Es war eine fast surreale Erfahrung, meine künstlerische Fantasie abseits von Schuhen oder Accessoires anzuwenden. Es galt, der Grom einen Look verpassen, als wäre es so schnell, dass nicht einmal der Lack haften bleibt, sondern abtropft oder vom Fahrwind verweht wird. Es ist schließlich genauso geworden, wie es uns vorschwebte!“

Guy Willisons Zusammenarbeit mit Honda UK an Sondereditionen der Rebel- und CB1000RSsModelle machte ihn zum perfekten Mann für die Umsetzung. „Als ich gebeten wurde, mit Matt an diesem Grom-Projekt zusammenzuarbeiten, hatte ich das Gefühl, dass es nur eine Richtung gibt, in die wir gehen sollten: einen Drag-Racer mit Turbolader und Lachgaseinspritzung, der keine Kompromisse eingeht, bis aufs Äußerste reduziert sowie mit passendem Styling.“

The MSX125 Grom „Hold On!“ by Matt B and customizer Guy Willison (@guywillison) is stretched like a pro-street dragster bike thanks to the extended swingarm and has been pumped up in terms of performance to boot. Undoubtedly an exciting, intriguingly bold creation.

Matt B Customs, from Manchester in the UK, discovered his passion for customising trainers at the age of 17, when he initially started making them for friends and family. Success was not long in coming, and now his sporty artwork kicks are worn by Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Marcus Rashford.

„It was an almost surreal experience to apply my artistic imagination away from shoes or accessories. It was a case of giving the Grom a look as if it was so fast that not even the paint would stick, but drip off or be blown away by the driving wind. It ended up exactly as we had in mind!“

Guy Willison’s collaboration with Honda UK on special editions of the Rebel and CB1000RSs models made him the perfect man to make it happen. „When I was asked to work with Matt on this Grom project, I felt there was only one direction we should go: a turbocharged, nitrous-injected drag racer that doesn’t compromise, stripped down to the extreme and with styling to match.“
